A calmer dental visit with IV conscious sedation - comfortable, monitored care
Service Description
IV conscious sedation is a safe and effective way to help nervous or anxious patients feel calm and comfortable during dental treatment. It is often recommended for people with dental phobia, a strong gag reflex, difficulty getting numb, or when longer or more complex procedures are planned. With IV sedation, a carefully controlled sedative medicine is given through a small cannula placed in the arm or hand. This allows the dentist to adjust the level of sedation throughout your appointment, helping you stay relaxed while still breathing normally and able to respond to simple instructions. Most patients describe the experience as feeling very drowsy and deeply at ease, with little awareness of time passing. Many also have limited memory of the treatment afterwards. IV conscious sedation can be suitable for a wide range of dental procedures, including extractions, surgical dentistry, advanced restorative work, and multiple treatments carried out in one visit. It can make dental care feel much more manageable, helping patients receive the treatment they need with minimal stress. Your safety is our priority. Before offering IV sedation, we carry out a full medical assessment to confirm it is appropriate for you. During your appointment, your vital signs are closely monitored and you will be cared for by a trained clinical team throughout. Because the effects can take several hours to fully wear off, you will need a responsible adult to accompany you to and from the practice and stay with you afterwards. You must not drive, operate machinery, drink alcohol, or sign important documents for 24 hours. If you would like to find out whether IV conscious sedation is right for you, please contact the practice to arrange a consultation.
